Urban Folklore Design
I am a Glaswegian formally trained jeweller and silversmith and graduate of Central Saint Martins and the royal College of Art in London.
Since graduating I have worked as a jewellery designer for Swarovski in the Austrian Alps and I now run my own design practice in Glasgow named Urban Folklore.
Urban Folklore consists of a series of jewellery, pictures and objects which are handmade in my studio, my main technique is layering and combining different hand cut varied and mixed materials to create illustrative, fantastical “beasties” and landscapes which are inspired by the folklore of the different places I have lived, including Alabama, Austria and Scotland. Cheeky-faced Krampus and Wolpertingers of the Austrian Alps appear alongside the Jackalopes of the Southern States and urban motifs such as CCTV cameras to create social a social commentary.
